Broome County is trading the dangerous heat for a wet and unsettled start to the week.
Current conditions in Binghamton are cloudy and around 69 degrees, with Monday’s forecast calling for periods of rain, some heavy at times, and a thunderstorm risk. The main concern today is localized flooding, especially in poor-drainage areas, low spots, and roads that collect water quickly during heavy downpours.
Drivers should slow down, avoid flooded roads, and give extra room to emergency crews, utility workers, and storm cleanup crews. Even though temperatures are cooler than the recent heat wave, humidity and lingering heat stress can still affect people who spent the holiday weekend outdoors or without reliable cooling.
Conditions should slowly improve Tuesday, with a brief morning shower possible before clouds begin breaking for some sun. Wednesday looks warmer and brighter, with highs climbing back toward the upper 70s. Another humid stretch and thunderstorm chance return later in the week.
For now, keep the umbrella close, watch the roads, and do not drive through standing water.
