Residents should enjoy the weekend break, but also keep an eye on the forecast for Monday and Tuesday, especially in areas still recovering from recent tornado and wind damage.
Today’s Weather 100 Years Ago Today looks back to July 24, 1926, when Broome County was still dealing with the aftermath of a powerful summer wind and rainstorm that struck Binghamton and Johnson City the previous day. The storm tore down trees, damaged crops, knocked out telephone, telegraph and trolley lines, and left Binghamton cut off from outside communication for several hours.
The storm followed an oppressive heat wave that caused serious public-health impacts across the city, including multiple heat-related emergencies.
